PRACTICE
JPALM operates through a slow, considered practice where design, technical development, and manufacturing exist as a singular, integrated process. All production is proudly based in Aotearoa New Zealand.
DEVELOPMENT
Every collection is textile-led, informed by the feel and weight of the fabric. In their Pōneke workroom, Julia Palm personally oversees the entire process of designing, pattern-making, and sampling of each piece in-house. This hands-on development allows their creative vision and technical precision to shine through, ensuring that every garment is engineered for functionality and form. This results in designs that empower the wearer through meticulous construction and deliberate design.
MANUFACTURING
Once a design is perfected, it enters a fine-tuned production system within Aotearoa. JPALM collaborates with a network of skilled industry contemporaries, including specialist pattern graders, garment cutters, machinists and pressers. Production is strictly limited to small-batch runs with the intention of resisting the industry standard of overproduction and to ensure every piece is made with purpose. Fabrics and trims are sourced primarily through local wholesalers, prioritising high-quality deadstock and textiles selected for their longevity.
RESPONSIBILITY
JPALM maintains a disciplined studio practice focused on technical precision and waste reduction. By prioritising small-scale manufacturing, the brand maintains a focused inventory, producing only what is necessary. Following production, remaining fabric ends are retained to create unique, one-off garments sewn within the JPALM workroom. Any further textile waste is mindfully donated and recycled to minimise the environmental footprint. By making less, better, JPALM creates pieces designed to endure, adapt, and maintain a permanent presence in your world.
